Black Creek Village Library would like to wish everyone happy holidays! There is so much to do in the area during the wintertime, from enjoying outdoor sportsmanship, to ringing bells for local charities, to spending time inside with family and friends curled up with a good book or a cheesy holiday film. This holiday season, we are going to be at the Library, enjoying the company of our neighbors and doing good deeds!

On Thursday, December 10,  at 5:30 PM, we will be hosting our annual Ornament Night festivities! Join us for treats and camaraderie as we make ornaments for your Christmas tree, Menorah, rearview mirror, or just for fun! We will have activities for all ages. Please RSVP by December 1st.

We are proud to sponsor a giving tree this holiday season. Stop by the Library before December 23rd to get your hands on a wish tag from our holiday tree. These tags will have items that the residents of Good Shepherd would love to have for Christmas. Want to shop ahead? Some items are: any Wisconsin sports teams apparel. socks, body spray, lotion, jewelry, Seroogys Candy Bars (red wrapper), Dove dark chocolate candy, sweat pants for me (1x), long sleeve t-shirts, women's sweatshirt (medium), men's flannel shirts (large), men's lounge pants (large). We are happy to accept any of these items plus anything else you would like to contribute to those who may be spending the holidays alone this year.

Black Creek Village Library is proud and blessed to have such amazing neighbors!

Events this week:

Closed for Thanksgiving
Open on Black Friday, 10AM-6PM with regular programming!

Part of being in the library world means learning from others in our field. I had the opportunity to attend the Wisconsin Library Association conference this past week and attended many important sessions, learning everything about how to host a murder mystery at your library (stay tuned for more information about this!) to late fees. There is so much to learn about--and so much that happens behind the scenes here at the library--that intrigues and interests all of us in the field.

Interacting with fellow librarians throughout the state has made me realize that librarianship is a very popular field, and led me to think of the many young people who volunteer at our library. Whether reshelving books or coloring awesome decorations for the library, our volunteers absolutely rock! Not only are they learning about how the library works and making it a better place, but they are also having fun in a safe space. I cannot underestimate how much this means to BCVL and how special it makes us feel that kids want to help out. Whether or not they go on to a career in librarianship is not known yet, but that would truly be awesome.

Speaking of young people, we have storytime this Friday for Babies and Toddlers at 10:15 AM, and for Preschoolers at 10:30 AM. Creative Library After School Sessions (CLASS) starts right after school and features fun activities for elementary and middle schoolers, although everyone is welcome. Don't forget about the Third Thursday Page Turners, a fun book group, which meets next Thursday the 19th at 1PM.

Creative Library After School Sessions (CLASS) on Friday evenings could not be more popular with our after school crowd. Last week, Krista taught the kids how to make slime! For an upcoming CLASS session on September 25th, we need 28 clear 2 liter soda bottles with the caps. If you have any you would be willing to donate, please drop them off at the library! The kids will be making cartesian divers, a science experiment that teaches about buoyancy. If you would like to have your child come to this event (suitable for late elementary and early middle school kids), RSVP before the event on 9/25 at 3:30 PM!

For the Third Thursday Page Turners this month, we are going to the museum! You are welcome to join Jackie on Thursday, September 17th at 1PM for a discussion of "Murder in the Smithsonian" by Margaret Truman.
