BCVL is turning back time! Join us on Fridays for Baby/Toddler Storytime at 10:30 AM and Preschool Storytime at 11, just like it used to be! Jackie and friends will have fun with stories, songs, puppets, and crafts while also learning about the world around us. Everyone is welcome!

Did you know? Library After School Time (LAST) meets every Friday at 3:30 at the library. It is for school-aged kids and includes Lego time, crafts, snacks, and fun! Thanks to the Friends of the Black Creek Village Library, the kids now have SnapCircuits to play with, an educational game that allows kids to build circuits and make cool inventions!

Another wonderfully generous donation was $100.00 by the Wednesday Afternoon Cardplayers, a group of gentlemen who play cards in the basement of BCVL. We are so grateful for our wonderful community members!

Don’t forget to sign up for a spot with Mark Moran, famous antique appraiser, who will be visiting the Black Creek Village Library on Thursday, May 28, 2015, from 5-8PM. You can stop by or call the library at (920) 984-3094 to reserve your spot for only $5. Mark will tell you if your beloved heirloom is worth a million!

The staff are such an important part of Black Creek Village Library, and on evenings during the week, perhaps you have seen a new face! Krista Knapp joined us in March and has been a splendid addition to our team. Not only does she have a passion for libraries, but her enthusiasm is fantastic as well! She has been the creator of so many fun additions to our library, including coming up with the Library Fortune Teller. Kids can come to the library and pick their fortune out of the crystal ball. These fortunes range from reading a Boxcar Children book to exploring the nonfiction section. Once they complete their fortune, they get rewarded with extra computer time! Come on down to meet Krista today!

Black Creek Village Library is so excited for the Friends of BCVL Book and Bake Sale. This is the most wonderful time of the year! Not only do we get to enjoy delicious treats, but we get to buy loads of books that are either discarded from the library or donated by generous community members throughout the year. The Book and Bake Sale is taking place Monday, April 27, 2015, through Saturday, May 2nd, 2015, during our normal library hours int the Community Room across from the Library. I hope you can stop by for this fun event!

If you visit our website, you might notice that we have a new blog up and running! It is called "Three Hundred Pages" and it is by Kiley Couillard, who started at BCVL three years ago as the Evening Library Services Specialist and just recently was promoted to the Technical Services Specialist, which is a daytime position. Many of you know Kiley and have been able to talk with her about books and more  throughout the years. This blog is a way for her to show off her awesome writing skills while talking about books, movies, the library, life, and more! I encourage you all to check it out. Kiley is an extremely intelligent and hard-working staff member, and we don't know what we would do without her. Next time you see Kiley, be sure to thank her for all she does!

The week of April 12th is very important to us here at BCVL. We are celebrating National Library Week, which emphasizes the importance of libraries great and small throughout the country. To that end, we encourage all patrons to participate in our BCVL "Giving Tree." Many people have heard of Shel Silverstein's wonderful children's book, The Giving Tree. We are emulating the kind tree's great mission--and hope you can help us! So many patrons can't use the library because they cannot afford to pay off their fines, which is very disheartening. If you stop by the library and purchase a leaf on the tree for $1.00, a friend in need can use that money to put it towards their fines so that they can check out materials again. We all know how easy it is to keep a book or movie for longer than we should, so let's lend a helping hand.

April is going to be a wonderful month here at the library! Not only are we celebrating National Library Week the 13th through the 18th, but we are also having many exciting events. The Friends of the Black Creek Library book sale will be the entire week of April 27th. You can come in and have a chance to purchase books and VHSs, all benefitting the Friends!

For National Library Week, children 8 and under are invited to participate in a coloring contest for a chance to win a free meal from Culver’s! Stop by anytime the 13th through the 18th to participate.

The book for  the 3rd Thursday Page Turners, our lovely book club, is Water for Elephants this month. It tells the story of an aspiring veterinarian who joins the Benzini Brothers Most Spectacular Show on Earth and tells a story of intrigue, romance, and secrets. Join us Thursday, April 16th at 1:00 PM for coffee and conversation about this book! You can pick up your copy here at the library.

Storytime with Katie is a little different than what you may have been used to in the past. We like to shake things up here at BCVL! Storytime is now for all ages, including babies, toddlers, and school-aged kids (not to mention their grownups!) and will begin at 10:30 AM each Friday. Katie includes content that appeals to children of every developmental stage. Everyone is welcome!

We also have big, exciting news for you! On Thursday, May 28th at 5:00 PM, famed antique appraiser Mark Moran will be coming to the library to explain the value of YOUR beloved antiques. Have a cool piece of art or an old watch that you think might be worth something? Come on down and have it appraised! There are a limited amount of spots available between 5 and 8PM, so call us or stop by the library to reserve your spot. “Antiques Roadshow” meets Black Creek, and it only costs $5.00 to have your item looked at! All proceeds will be going towards a new rug for the tweens and teen area!
