It’s official, the Black Creek Library Page Turners will begin meeting again September 26th! In-person meetings will be the last Wednesday of the month at 1 pm, and online discussion will be ongoing throughout the month. Let us know if you’re interested in participating in (or even just checking out) the online discussion and we’ll send you an invitation.
Our first book will be If the Creek Don’t Rise by Leah Weiss, and we have a whole stack of copies up at the circulation desk for you to check out. Here’s a short blurb by the publisher: “In a North Carolina mountain town filled with moonshine and rotten husbands, Sadie Blue is only the latest girl to face a dead-end future at the mercy of a dangerous drunk. She's been married to Roy Tupkin for fifteen days, and she knows now that she should have listened to the folks who said he was trouble. But when a stranger sweeps in and knocks the world off-kilter for everyone in town, Sadie begins to think there might be more to life than being Roy's wife. As stark and magnificent as Appalachia itself, If the Creek Don't Rise is a bold and beautifully layered debut about a dusty, desperate town finding the inner strength it needs to outrun its demons. The folks of Baines Creek will take you deep into the mountains with heart, honesty, and homegrown grit."
Since The Great American Read has been so popular, we will continue to display these titles through October. If you haven’t checked out the list yet, we encourage you to take one with you the next time you’re here and see how many of these new and old classics you’ve read. To cast your vote, go here: https://www.pbs.org/the-great-american-read/vote/#. We’re also featuring books about places, including travel stories and novels set in foreign countries. Check out these exciting books in our new display, “Where in the World Are You Going?”
Our hallway project this month is decorating cupcakes, and our table topic is possibly one of the most fun we’ve ever had - discover what your pirate name is for a prize!
Don’t forget to join us for Chalk Bombs today (August 16th,) at 2! There’s nothing more fun (and messy) than throwing chalk around outside! We’ll also have regular sidewalk chalk available to decorate our sidewalks. If it happens to rain, we will reschedule for tomorrow at 2.
Next week Monday (August 20th,) is our End of Summer Ice Cream Party already! Join us from 1 – 3 pm for ice cream and prizes. If you can’t make it, don’t worry – we will save your prizes for you, and they will be here at the library for you to pick up.
Next Thursday (August 23rd,) is our final performer of the summer. The Incredible One-Man Circus Show will be here at 11 am to showcase his incredible tricks while sharing historical circus facts. Expect all kinds of excitement – fire-walking, contortion, and more.
