Do you have the winter blahs? We have some great programs coming up that can help beat the winter woes!

First off, the Friends of the Black Creek Village Library are having a book folding workshop! You will learn the basics of the art of book folding as you upcycle a hardcover book into a beautiful heart design. The workshop will be held this week on Thursday, January 19th at 6:30PM. You will need to bring a pencil, a ruler that measures in centimeters, and a hardcover book with at least 216 pages and measuring 21cm high. If you want to join but do not have a book, there will be some provided here for you to use.

Next, mark your calendars for Wednesday, January 25th. From 5:30PM to 6:30, we will be hosting Dirk Hildebrant, a historic farmer from Old World Wisconsin. It will be a discussion on the history and some of the techniques of historical Wisconsin farming. This program is free and open to all patrons. No registration is required. We hope to see everyone there!

Our Lego Club will meet on Thursday, January 19th at 3:30PM to 5:30PM. We will be doing an open build, but will have challenge cards for anyone who would like to do a build challenge! All ages are welcome and no registration is required to join the fun! Lego Club meets the first and third Thursday of every month.

On February 1st at 5:30 PM, we will be hosting the UW Extension for a program called “Money Management: Creating a Spending Plan”.  This is a free event, however we ask that you RSVP by January 27th so we can guarantee there will be enough booklets for everyone. You can sign up at the library, call us at 920-984-3094, or email us at bcl@mail.owls.lib.wi.us.

For December, we asked the kids to decorate the hallway with Neckties for National Tie Month. They did a fantastic job! We cannot wait to see what skate designs they come up with for next month’s topic, International Skating Month! Everyone is encouraged to stop by and color an ice skate for our hallway.

It’s hard to believe that Christmas is this weekend! We want to let everyone know that we will be closed on Saturday, December 24th through Monday, December 26th for the holiday. We will be back at our regular hours on Tuesday, December 27th.

We had a fantastic time at our Cookie Exchange last Tuesday! All of the treats looked so delicious and the kids did wonderful jobs on their crafts! Everyone who attended had a great time as well. Thank you to the Friends of the Library for all of your help with the cookie exchange. We really appreciate everything you do for us!

The Friends of the Black Creek Village Library have a wonderful selection of knitted hats that have been lovingly made and donated by Martha Vick. If you need a hat for this frigid weather, please stop by the library and pick one out. There are many sizes to choose from. The hats are available to anyone who needs one, however, any donation for a hat is greatly appreciated by the Friends and will help us with upcoming library events.

The snow is making for a beautiful white Christmas. This is also a great time to remind our patrons of our winter weather policy: If schools are closed due to bad weather, the Black Creek Village Library will also be closed. If the weather looks bad on a Saturday, call the library to see if we are open or check our Facebook page at Facebook.com/blackcreekvillagelibrary; we keep our Facebook page updated with closings, exciting happenings, and other announcements.
