On July 20, 1969 Apollo 11’s crew landed on the surface of the moon. It is only a little over eight years since then President John F. Kennedy issued a charge for America to put a man on the moon by the decade’s end. Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin were those Americans. They left behind a plaque that reads: "Here men from the planet Earth first set foot upon the moon. July 1969 A.D. We came in peace for all mankind."

Guest teacher Kelly Lerum is back tomorrow for a special program, tailored for elementary and older kids, about the moon and the importance of Apollo 11’s historic milestone. We will also be hearing about local teenager Tyler Thomas and his experience at space camp! Plus, try out some astronaut food! This program is 1-3pm on Friday, July 19th.

Are you interested in learning more about space travel? Check out our display of items on this topic in our display area located opposite our circulation desk. The display will be up through the month of July.

Have you ever heard of the genre Gentle Reads? A Gentle Read is defined as book containing little or no violence or explicit content. Often, they are described as: “feel-good” or “heartwarming.” Think of it as the literary equivalent of comfort food! This particular genre has been gaining popularity in recent years and we are highlighting some library-owned titles (as well as related films) in our display area.
