Stumpkin by Lucy Ruth Cummins is the story of a beautiful, big, round pumpkin that has only one flaw—Stumpkin has no stem. As Stumpkin watches and waits to be chosen by the many customers that come and go from the small shop, it’s hard to fight off despair. Stumpkin desperately wants to be a jack-o-lantern, but will the lack of a stem deprive Stumpkin of a chance to shine? This feel-good book has it all—a plucky main character, flashes of humor, intensifying suspense, and a closing bit of cleverness.
