November 9, 2015

Part of being in the library world means learning from others in our field. I had the opportunity to attend the Wisconsin Library Association conference this past week and attended many important sessions, learning everything about how to host a murder mystery at your library (stay tuned for more information about this!) to late fees. There is so much to learn about--and so much that happens behind the scenes here at the library--that intrigues and interests all of us in the field.

Interacting with fellow librarians throughout the state has made me realize that librarianship is a very popular field, and led me to think of the many young people who volunteer at our library. Whether reshelving books or coloring awesome decorations for the library, our volunteers absolutely rock! Not only are they learning about how the library works and making it a better place, but they are also having fun in a safe space. I cannot underestimate how much this means to BCVL and how special it makes us feel that kids want to help out. Whether or not they go on to a career in librarianship is not known yet, but that would truly be awesome.

Speaking of young people, we have storytime this Friday for Babies and Toddlers at 10:15 AM, and for Preschoolers at 10:30 AM. Creative Library After School Sessions (CLASS) starts right after school and features fun activities for elementary and middle schoolers, although everyone is welcome. Don't forget about the Third Thursday Page Turners, a fun book group, which meets next Thursday the 19th at 1PM.
