Effective June 1, 2022, Black Creek Village Library is going fine free! What does this mean in practical terms? Starting in June, the Library will not charge a daily fine for items checked out at Black Creek and returned past their due date. If a library item is 28 days late, you will be billed the cost of the item. Once the billed item is returned in good condition, the bill will be removed. Our renewal policies will stay in place, and you are encouraged to renew items as you did before.
Why is the library going fine free?
We understand that everyone has a lot to keep track of and would like to remove the financial penalty of returning your items late. We want to be sure everyone has access to the library and do not want fines to be a barrier. Financially, fines are less than 1.0% of our annual budget, and collecting fines requires staff time, which costs the library money. We are optimistic that library users will be considerate of others and continue to return the library materials they borrow in a timely manner.
Current overdue fines will for Black Creek Village Library cardholders will be forgiven as of June 1. If fines remain on your card as of that date, please contact the library. Fees for damaged or lost items are not automatically forgiven, and we cannot waive these fees for items owned by other libraries, but we can contact other libraries on your behalf.
Please see the library’s new website or contact the library with any questions.
