April is going to be a wonderful month here at the library! Not only are we celebrating National Library Week the 13th through the 18th, but we are also having many exciting events. The Friends of the Black Creek Library book sale will be the entire week of April 27th. You can come in and have a chance to purchase books and VHSs, all benefitting the Friends!

For National Library Week, children 8 and under are invited to participate in a coloring contest for a chance to win a free meal from Culver’s! Stop by anytime the 13th through the 18th to participate.

The book for  the 3rd Thursday Page Turners, our lovely book club, is Water for Elephants this month. It tells the story of an aspiring veterinarian who joins the Benzini Brothers Most Spectacular Show on Earth and tells a story of intrigue, romance, and secrets. Join us Thursday, April 16th at 1:00 PM for coffee and conversation about this book! You can pick up your copy here at the library.

Storytime with Katie is a little different than what you may have been used to in the past. We like to shake things up here at BCVL! Storytime is now for all ages, including babies, toddlers, and school-aged kids (not to mention their grownups!) and will begin at 10:30 AM each Friday. Katie includes content that appeals to children of every developmental stage. Everyone is welcome!

We also have big, exciting news for you! On Thursday, May 28th at 5:00 PM, famed antique appraiser Mark Moran will be coming to the library to explain the value of YOUR beloved antiques. Have a cool piece of art or an old watch that you think might be worth something? Come on down and have it appraised! There are a limited amount of spots available between 5 and 8PM, so call us or stop by the library to reserve your spot. “Antiques Roadshow” meets Black Creek, and it only costs $5.00 to have your item looked at! All proceeds will be going towards a new rug for the tweens and teen area!

Springtime means time for settling in here at the library. If you check out our website, you might see some new blog posts from Kiley, our evening services clerk turned daytime Technical Services Specialist. If you come to storytime on Friday, you’ll meet Katie, our lovely new Youth Services Specialist who has enough enthusiasm for the entire library! Don’t forget to stop by in the evenings, too, to meet Krista, our new evening clerk. We love our mix of new and familiar faces here at BCVL!

Jackie is joining up with the Family Daze planning committee, which is hard at work to meet 2015’s celebration the best yet! It is hard to believe that June is only about three months away. We are so thankful to be in a community filled with caring and hard-working individuals.

This Friday, check out Family Movie Night at 6:30 PM. We will be showing the latest Disney movie about a special bond between the inflatable robot, Baymax, and Hiro Hamada. This movie is fun for the whole family and will be the most popular, rocking event of the week in Black Creek!

With the snow melting, it may seem like the library will be getting quieter with more and more people going outside, but that just isn't the case! Speaking of snow, Black Creek Village Library had the amazing opportunity to have special guest, Linda Fenton, a former Teacher on the Trail in the Iditarod, to the library on Friday to speak about her experiences and celebrate the kick-off of the race. We may be a small library, but our ability to learn about cultures and tradition from all over the United States and the world is amazing!

This Saturday, the Friends of the Black Creek Village Library will be hosting one of their most popular events: Booked for Dinner. This time around, the elegant meal and conversation focuses on a memoir about a young girl growing up in the Midwest during the 1960s. RSVP as soon as possible to guarantee your spot for this fantastic fundraiser! Storytime and LAST will take place at its usual times this Friday at 10:30 for babies and toddlers and 11:00 for pre-schoolers, with LAST starting at 3:30.

Hours:

  • Monday 10 am - 8 pm
  • Tuesday 10 am - 8 pm
  • Wednesday 10am -8 pm
  • Thursday 10 am - 8 pm
  • Friday 10 am - 6 pm

BCVL is bouncing into Spring! We have had a wonderful few weeks at the library. From drinking milkshakes at the Sock Hop, with special thanks to Sal's Foods for supplying the ice cream, to getting together to discuss our favorite books, we have been busy.

This past Friday, kids got together to celebrate the day off of school with Anna, Elsa, and Olaf! With a movie, snacks, and crafts, it was a day to go down in history! On Saturday, Middle Schoolers took over the library during the Spring Bling Fling, with music, snacks, games, and camaraderie.

Come to the library this Friday, March 6th at 6:00 PM to listen to Linda Fenton talk about her experience participating in the Iditarod. Then, enjoy a family movie about Balto, the famous dog who saved the lives of many!

Don't forget about the Friends of the Black Creek Library fundraiser, Booked for Dinner, coming up on Saturday, March 14th. Enjoy a divine meal served by Black Creek's best cooks while enjoying a discussion about a fun biography. Stop by the library to pick up your copy and register for the dinner today!

Due to popular demand, the Third Saturday Page Turners are becoming the Third Thursday Page Turners! Book club will now meet at 1:00 PM every third Thursday of the month. Pick up the book of the month at the library as well!
