It’s the time of year where I can’t help but think of swans. When viewed from above the water’s surface, they seem to be gliding along effortlessly. In reality, there’s a lot of action below the surface as their feet move quickly to stay in motion.
I’m not sure public library staff ever appear quite so graceful as swans, but this time of year, there’s a lot of activity behind the scenes as we get ready for summer!
We recognize that for many children, summer vacation is a break from learning that fuels what has become known as the “summer slide,” and the achievement gap between children who have educational and enrichment opportunities and those who do not increases dramatically each year (even in the pre-COVID era). We want to do our part to support literacy and learning by providing engaging programs, resources, and materials for youth to enjoy year round. (After all, educational and fun do not need to be mutually exclusive categories.)
Thank you for your support as we gear up for another summer, and stay tuned for more information on what to expect at the library this summer.
Black Creek Village Library will be closed Saturday, May 28 through Monday, May 30 in observance of Memorial Day. Regular hours resume on Tuesday, May 31.
