Foreword – August 14, 2023

It’s not too late to turn in your Summer Library Challenge game boards, which can be turned in through August 31!

It’s Back-to-School season, and the library is a drop-off site for Community 2000’s Annual Back-to-School Drive. Community 2000 is collecting new school supplies to be distributed to area students in need. New school supplies of all types be accepted through August 21.

As we get ready to return to school, we’d like to give a shout out to teachers too! The picture book Rescuing Mrs. Birdley by Aaron Reynolds features an intrepid student named Miranda who spots her teacher at the grocery store, which is not (accordingly to Miranda) Mrs. Birdley’s natural habitat—she must have escaped from school! As a huge fan of a wildlife show where the star rescues animals of all types and sizes and returns them to their native habitat, Miranda know just what to do. Will Mrs. Birdley be “rescued?” It’s a funny story that reminds kids (though maybe not Miranda) that teachers are people too!

Thank you to everyone who has completed our community survey! We appreciate your feedback! We’d like to invite others to provide their input, whether you use the library or not. All adults who complete the survey will have the option of providing their name and contact information to be entered in a drawing for one of four, $25 Amazon gift cards. (Thank you to the Friends for providing the gift cards!) The link to the digital survey can be found on the library website and Facebook page. Paper copies of the survey are available upon request at the library. The deadline to complete the survey is Sunday, August 20.
